Melissa Conrath has announced plans to retire as superintendent of Worthington City Schools.

Conrath will step down at the end of 2011, but the Worthington school board hopes to hire her successor by the end of this school year so a transition may begin in August.

The board plans to hire a search firm to assist in finding a new superintendent.

Conrath, 57, has been superintendent for five years. Her salary is $153,824.

Before coming to Worthington, she was superintendent of Big Walnut Local School District for 11 years and was assistant superintendent in Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools prior to that.
